Maple Ridge Township Renewable Energy Public Hearing December 10, 2024
The Maple Ridge Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 7 pm to recommend the adoption of a set of zoning ordinance amendments to the Township Board. The public hearing will be held at Maple Ridge Township Hall at 16000 W. LaComb Rd., Alpena, MI 49707. The full text of the amendments is available by clicking below. The proposed amendments modify the Maple Ridge Township Zoning Ordinance to address solar energy, wind energy, and battery energy storage systems as follows:
Amend Article 2 to add definitions pertaining to solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems. Amend Article 4 through 12 to allow accessory solar panels and accessory wind turbines as a permitted use in all districts, to allow Utility-Scale Solar and Utility-Scale Wind as a Special Use in the Agricultural District, and to allow Battery Energy Storage Systems as a Special Use in the Agricultural District (only when proposed in conjunction with a Utility-Scale Solar Facility or Utility-Scale Wind Facility) and in the Industrial District. Add a new Article 23 “Renewable Energy” which contains supplemental standards and approval processes for all solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems.
