The Going PRO Talent Fund, formerly known as the Skilled Trades Training Fund, increases the quality and competitiveness of Michigan’s employers by providing awards for customized employer responsive training. The intent of these awards is to enhance and train talent, increase productivity and employment retention, support registered apprenticeships, and meet the current demand needed to address the skills gaps of employees.
Training programs are customized to the needs of each employer, allowing them to either promote from within or to train and develop skilled workers. Designed to be completed quickly, trainings usually last less than 3 months, and are completed in less than 6 months. Employers are expected to be active in designing the training, and when completed, workers receive a credential for a recognizable and transferable skill.
Work with your Michigan Works! Business Solutions Professional to determine if Going PRO Talent Fund grants are appropriate to help fill the skills gap at your business. The Going PRO Talent Fund are competitive grants – the application period opens November 2.
In 2019, Northeast Michigan employers were awarded funding in total of $368,000 from the Going PRO Talent Fund, which helped 24 businesses train over 300 employees.
